Paraguay has long been isolated by a dictatorship that lasted nearly 35 years, the country is getting back to work, everywhere the economy is taking off, except in the Chaco. The region occupies half of the country and yet it has only one inhabitant per km2. Despite this inhospitable climate, strange colonies of men and women settle there, under their hands the forest disappears giving way to immense fields. Mennonites dedicate their lives to god and reject any form of modern society? Their dress code dates back to the 18th century and only travel by horse-drawn carriage? These Protestant Christians from Germany and even Alsace are mostly blond with blue eyes and only marry among themselves? The Chaco is also the reign of resourcefulness, you can come across a machine that seems straight out of the movie Mad Max. A vehicle unique in the world, half bus, half truck!

At 70, he's living off grid on an island with all modern conveniences

We invite you to discover the Bissagos Islands, an isolated territory of Guinee Bissau, in West Africa. These sacred lands resemble a vast river delta.

Marcelinho is a traditional healer from Empincha, a village situated on the island of Carache in the Bijagos Islands. He learned the art of traditional medicine from his father and has been practicing it to treat people in the northern islands. In recent years, Marcelinho has also received training in the fundamentals of modern western medicine from foreign doctors.

The Bissagos Islands are home to the island of Orango, situated in the far south, and designated as a World Biosphere Reserve and the country's first National Park. Pedro, a generous man, resides on this island and works as a reporter for Okinka Pampa, Orango's small radio station. He is always on the lookout for stories to share with his listeners.

Quintino, residing on the island of Caravella, is preparing for the fanado, the highest initiation rite that will unlock a mysterious and secret world to him. This rite is considered the most important phase of his life and is celebrated by the community with great enthusiasm.

American society, divided up more than ever.

En plein coeur de l'Himalaya, au nord du Népal, se cache le Royaume de Lo. Pendant des décennies, l'accès à cette région a été interdit aux étrangers. Aujourd'hui, l'archéologue Mark Aldenderfer et son équipe se lancent dans une expédition à la découverte de ce territoire mystérieux. Ils y retrouvent les vestiges d'une civilisation inconnue : des milliers de grottes creusées à flanc de falaise à des dizaines de mètres du sol. Ces grottes referment encore des poteries et des bijoux d'une grande rareté, qui remettent en cause les connaissances actuelles sur la préhistoire de la région. Mais Mark découvre plus qu'un trésor, il réussit également à trouver des traces d'ADN. Cette précieuse matière génétique va révéler qui étaient les premiers habitants de ces hautes montagnes.
